Let's learn about silk twill and Momme (mm).

Aprendamos sobre Twill (sarga) de seda y Momme (mm).

What is Twill or silk twill?

Silk twill is a fabric woven using a twill pattern, which features diagonal lines or ribs on the surface of the fabric. In silk twill, these diagonal lines create a unique texture and appearance. This fabric is popular for its durability, soft texture, and drape. It has a luxurious feel and is often used in high-end fashion items and home decor, such as scarves, ties, blouses, dresses, and upholstery. The diagonal weave structure of silk twill gives it a subtle sheen and makes it less prone to wrinkling than other silk fabrics. Silk twill is prized for its elegance, versatility, and strength.

What is Momme?

Silk twill comes in different densities defined by its "momme" rating. "Momme" refers to the weight and density of the silk fabric. Momme (mm) is the standard unit used to measure the weight, thickness, and quality of a silk fabric. A higher momme rating indicates a denser, heavier silk fabric, while a lower momme rating indicates a lighter, more delicate silk. For example, silk twill with a higher momme rating (around 30 mm or more) might be thicker and more luxurious, suitable for heavy curtains or robust garments. On the other hand, silk twill with a momme rating of 12-19 mm would be lighter and more appropriate for delicate scarves or clothing with a flowing drape. Currently, our scarves are available in 12 mm, 14 mm, and 16 mm momme ratings. In short, momme helps us understand the thickness and quality of silk fabric, guiding us in selecting the right type for various purposes.
